Summary

A personal review of my experience with UGC Mastery Academy, including my struggles trying to learn UGC on my own, why I decided to invest in the program, what changed after joining, and how the training, coaching, and community helped me become a more confident UGC creator. I also share who I think the program is right for and why I recommend starting with Nate Flake’s free UGC masterclass.

For about six months, I tried to figure out how to build a UGC business on my own. I watched videos, listened to podcasts, worked on my portfolio, practiced filming, researched brands, and tried to understand pitching, pricing, editing, contracts, and everything else that comes with becoming a UGC creator.

I was also doing all of this around a full-time job. I work Monday through Thursday, and depending on the day, that can mean eight hours or more than twelve. I worked on UGC before work, after dinner, before bed, and as much as I could on weekends.

Six months into all that effort, I had one paid UGC job to show for it.

The problem wasn’t that I wasn’t working hard. I didn’t know if I was working on the right things.

How I Found Nate Flake and UGC

Creator Connect Event

My full-time job involves a lot of driving, so podcasts have become one of my favorite ways to learn. Once I became interested in UGC, I searched for podcasts about it and found Nate Flake.

I started listening and pretty much binged everything I could find. That eventually led me to purchase Nate’s Fiverr Pro course, which helped me learn more about UGC and take the idea of becoming a creator more seriously.

Then I attended the first Creator Connect in Park City.

Being around other creators was huge but also tough (yes, I’m an introvert). I met some great people, learned a ton, and came home wanting to go all in on UGC. But a few months later, I still wasn’t making the progress I thought all that work should be producing.

I had learned a lot. I just didn’t have a clear path for turning what I was learning into a business.

Making My Biggest Investment in a Course

After Creator Connect, I started looking more seriously at different UGC programs and eventually decided on UGC Mastery Academy.

It wasn’t an easy decision.

I’ve purchased plenty of courses since I started writing professionally in 2019. I’ve studied blogging, content writing, copywriting, marketing, AI and LLMs, and plenty of other subjects along the way. UGC Mastery Academy was the most I’d ever invested in a program.

That made me ask a pretty uncomfortable question, Could I keep figuring this out myself, or was trying to save money actually costing me time?

I ultimately decided that if I was serious about building a UGC business, I needed to take a chance on myself. I signed up and went all in!

What Changed Inside UGC Mastery Academy

The biggest change was surprisingly simple, I stopped guessing.

Instead of jumping between YouTube videos, podcasts, social posts, courses, and whatever else I thought might help, I followed the UGC Mastery Academy training in order.

The lessons build on each other, so I stopped worrying about everything I hadn’t learned yet and focused on what was directly in front of me. I even stopped worrying about landing another deal for a while because my priority became building the foundation correctly.

For the first time, I also had a coach!

That was a much bigger deal than I expected. When I had questions, I could ask someone. When I wasn’t sure about something, I could get feedback. And when I started overthinking things, I had someone who could help me figure out what actually mattered.

There’s just something about having all the information in front of you, but also having someone help me apply it made all the difference.

One Month Made a Huge Difference

I completed the UGC Mastery Academy training in about a month. That’s not because the program promises you’ll finish that quickly or because everyone should. I had made a significant investment in myself, and I wanted to get everything I could out of it.

When I compare what I accomplished during that month with the previous six months of trying to teach myself, there’s a huge difference.

The easiest place to see it is in my videos. The difference is night and day.

My scripting improved. My filming improved. My editing improved. More importantly, I started understanding why I was making those creative decisions instead of simply trying to make something that looked good.

After finishing the training, I still had another couple of months with my coach. That’s when I could focus more on applying what I’d learned to pitching, talking with brands, pricing, contracts, negotiations, and actual opportunities.

I’m Still Building My UGC Business

I want to make this clear because I don’t want this to turn into one of those “I bought a course and now I’m rich” stories.

I’m still working my full-time job.

UGC is something I’m building alongside it, and there’s still plenty I want to accomplish. But I’m in a completely different position than I was when I started.

I can communicate confidently with brands, develop concepts, create scripts, film and edit content, discuss pricing, negotiate projects, and better understand contracts. I’ve even turned down opportunities because the terms didn’t align with what I wanted for my business.

Most of my friends still don’t completely understand what I do. But now I do.

And that’s a pretty big difference.

Is UGC Mastery Academy Worth It?

For me, yes.

But I also don’t think UGC Mastery Academy is magic. Buying the program doesn’t eliminate the work.

I still stay up late. I worked before and after my regular job. I spend weekends practicing and learning. I’ve been asking a lot of questions, made mistakes, sent pitches, got ignored, improved, and kept going.

What UGC Mastery Academy gave me was direction for that effort.

There’s also a community of creators going through the same process. Instead of trying to build this completely alone, there are people to ask questions, share wins and frustrations with, and learn from.

Would I recommend taking on debt to join? No. That’s something I personally wouldn’t do.

But if you can responsibly make the investment, you’re serious about becoming a UGC creator, and you’re tired of trying to piece everything together yourself, I absolutely think UGC Mastery Academy is worth considering.

I’m glad I took the chance on myself.

Interested in UGC? Start With the Free Masterclass

UGC male on cliff recording footageYou don’t have to make a big investment to find out whether UGC is something you actually want to pursue.

Nate offers a free UGC masterclass covering how UGC works, how creators can get started without needing a large social following, creating content brands can use, and building UGC around an existing job.

That’s where I’d start.

Give Nate a little of your time and learn how this business works. Then decide for yourself whether it’s something you want to pursue.

I’m still building my own UGC business, and I have a lot more I want to accomplish. But looking back at where I was six months before joining UGC Mastery Academy and where I am now, I’m glad I stopped trying to figure out everything alone.

Sometimes investing in yourself isn’t about finding a shortcut.

It’s about finally knowing which direction to go.
